Open Days
Explore Porto’s Heritage at a St James Open Day
Our Open Days were hugely successful last year, attracting 400 people from 35 countries over a seven-month period.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, from the last week in March, between the hours of 10.30am – 1.30pm the St James community will again be offering a welcome to everyone interested in finding out more about Porto’s heritage – especially British involvement in this part of Portugal.
Whether you’re an international visitor, pilgrim on the Caminho, a digital nomad, or otherwise resident here, you’ll be met at St James by well-informed volunteers eager to help you step into the city’s history. They’ll join the dots for you, between the church itself – which dates to the early 19th century – and other landmark buildings, such as The Factory House, important in the British-Portuguese port trade, as well as bulwarks of British social life here, including the Cricket Club, and the British School.
If you’d like an online taster of what’s to discover, try our History page https://www.stjamesporto.org/our-history and British Resources section https://www.stjamesporto.org/british-resources.
Our grounds also being worth a tour, particularly the cemetery – the need for which played a major part in the church’s beginnings – you’ll find the stories behind two fascinating characters, one honoured with a memorial, and the other actually buried in the graveyard’s treed and peaceful setting, in our Blog

Then follow your reading up with an in-person walkabout to get the comprehensive picture. No need to book, and nothing to pay. Please come and enjoy!
Address: Largo da Maternidade de Júlio Dinis 45, 4050-014 Porto, Portugal

Support for Our Environmental Programme
We've launched the sale of limited-edition water bottles and tote bags in support of our Environmental programme. Selling at a minimum donation of 8 euros each. This initiative is intended to save on the use of plastic bags and bottles, raise funds for St James and, at the same time, look very stylish!
You can purchase the items at St James on Sundays or place your order with Vicky, Julie or Claire.
